What is 3-Way Diverter Valve?

A 3-Way Diverter Valve is a type of valve with three ports (one inlet and two outlets). Its core function is to control the direction of water flow. By rotating the handle or switch, one can determine whether the water flow goes from the inlet to outlet A or to outlet B.

Working Principle of 3-Way Diverter Valve:

Inside the valve body, there is a rotatable cartridge. When the handle is turned, the cartridge rotates accordingly. The cartridge is equipped with flow ports that align with or seal off different passage combinations at various rotational positions, thereby achieving water flow distribution and switching.

Applications for 3-Way Diverter Valve:

1. Kitchen/Washing Machine: Connects the washing machine and the sink's faucets. Switch to the washing machine when washing, and to the faucet usually.

2. Shower System: Used to switch between the overhead showerhead, hand showerhead, and lower spout.

3. Water Purification System: Install a3-way diverter valve on the cold water pipe under the kitchen sink. One outlet leads to the regular faucet, and the other to the water purifier, allowing you to manually switch between using purified water.

4. Heating System: Used in floor heating or radiator systems to distribute hot water to different pipes for circulation.

Common Problems and Troubleshooting

Q1: What should I do if the valve is leaking?

• Leakage at the joint: It is usually caused by insufficient Teflon tape winding or aging and damage of the

sealing ring. Simply rewind the Teflon tape or replace the sealing ring to fix it.

• Leakage at the bottom of the valve cartridge: Typically caused by internal wear of the valve cartridge or aging of the sealing ring. Solution: Shut off the main water valve, then purchase a valve cartridge of the same specification and replace the old one.

Q2: Difficult to turn or stuck handle?
It may be that limescale or debris has jammed the valve cartridge. You can try turning it gently repeatedly; if this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the valve cartridge or the entire valve.

Q3: Unable to switch water flow completely?
This may be caused by a damaged valve cartridge that fails to fully align with the water channel, or by internal blockage from debris. Disassembly for inspection or replacement is required.

• Be sure to shut off the main water supply valve and relieve the pressure in the pipeline.
• When wrapping Teflon tape (15-20 turns) around the threaded joint, wrap it in a clockwise direction to prevent it from coming loose during screwing.
• Do not overtighten excessively; otherwise, it may cause thread stripping or valve body cracking. After tightening by hand, use a tool to secure it properly.
